As with Peter Hampton we verified that Redonna Leppla was the owner of the IP Address we caught port scanning, see below. /dns ReDonna_02530 ·· ReDonna_02530 _IP_ ·· 66.32.50.192 /whois ReDonna_02530 ReDonna_02530 ~redonna02@user-1120cm0.dsl.mindspring.com * ReDonna As with Peter Hampton the DNS Lookup and Whois Lookup confirmed the owner of that IP Address and nickname was indeed Redonna Leppla. When confronted by an IRC Operator who we reported this dubious activity to in the interests of public safety Redonna Leppla was recorded as stating the below dialog. Incidentally she also scanned the IRC Operator who questioned her about it. [21:14] <Fruit^Loop> WHY are you port scanning? Stupidity or LIES? We will let the reader make up their own mind. One would ask why this Officer might think a Trojan on somebody elses computer might hurt her own computer, unless they are completely stupid or just telling outright lies. According to the Web Police scanning for Trojans is not in fact Port Scanning which is most certainly a revelation that we were completely unaware of. The Web Police would certainly need to explain this new technology which we obviously do not understand to their ISP's and to DAL.Net and the rest of us poor technically devoid netizens. They can also scan a TCP Port without making a connection with the TCP Protocol, mysteriously the RFC on TCP neglects to mention this fact that we obviously missed or were completely unaware of. Understandable that this claim might hold some validity if it were a UDP scan even though scanning for Trojans is grossly unethical. Obviously we feel very embarrassed at our complete technical ineptitude in these matters and can only wish that we had received the latest cutting edge training in Internet Technology that each Web Police Officer receives. Obviously we were under the completely false impression that a TCP Port Scan initiates a brief connection with a listening Port/Socket on a computer. It is also a consideration that perhaps in fact that the Web Police do not break into computers at all and have a warrant for legitimate entry signed by any one of the many 100's of Police Agencies or Government Agencies that recognize them and have jurisdiction in the country the computer they are probing resides. This would be about the only valid explanation that they are not indeed illegally accessing computers without consent and we welcome them to explain to and satisfy our readers that they do have the authority and official endorsement to legally perform these practices of doubtful ethics.
